Help For Heroes
I am raising money to pay legal and living fees for people who have come to the U.S. for refuge after having been tortured in their home countries for politically motivated reasons. These unsung heroes are not allowed to work or receive any welfare, medical or other government funding. They are traumatized individuals who usually have family members and friends who were also tortured or murdered. Most of them are completely cut off from communicating with loved ones back home. They are applying for asylum, a legal process that can take years.

Hi, This is Barbara Spalding. The first $3000. earned by this campaign is earmarked to pay legal fees for a Tutsi who is trying to gain asylum in the U.S. Since campaigns cannot be edited, I will continue to post new funding goals as old ones are met. This client's lawyer is spending many hours on his case; this is a low fee. She will verify she received the funding. I have written the psychological evaluation for his asylum hearing. This client is slowly learning that it is safe enough to go outside.

Hi This is Barbara again. The Omidyar Foundation has generously donated $2534. to complete the initial $3000 request for legal fees for my Tutsi client.
Additional funds are always needed and I will report back or otherwise verify that the funds are spent as identified.
