Save a Dying Laptop

A few weeks ago, my iBook started acting oddly. It gets real hot when in use, shuts down when it wants, and freezes when it wants. It seems that it may be time to get something more reliable. At only just over 1 year of age, this should not be happening, but it is. I just do not understand it. I cannot really afford a new laptop on my own, but hope that someone will take pity and help.
