Hygiene facilities for Gulu children
The Charity for Peace Foundation is a Ugandan community volunteer organization that operate a "night-commuter center" in Gulu, Northern Uganda. Hundreds of children come to the center from villages surrounding Gulu town every night, to sleep in safety from abduction by LRA rebels.
Gulu Municipality has generously allowed temporary use of the buildings at Gulu Public School for the past 2.5 years, but now the center is required to move to another location. Charity for Peace Foundation has already acquired land, second hand tents with cement foundations from UNICEF, and a fence around the property from Aga Khan High School in Kampala. They have also built a temporary office/storage space and acquired toilets that now require installation.
The installation of basic plumbing and hygiene facilities is the final barrier that is keeping the center from shifting to the new location. The cost for the plumbing and construction required is estimated at $1,000, including financial transfer fees.
Life in Africa supports the Charity for Peace Foundation because they are an all Ugandan volunteer run organization without any major donor assistance, who provide an invaluable service to families in their war-torn community.
