The HDC2 International Volunteer Fund
The HDC2 International Volunteer Fund
HDC2 stands for “Helping Developing Countries Help Developing Countries” The HDC2 Fund is to support volunteers from Africa and other non-Western countries in tackling the serious problems facing the world’s children today.
It is hoped that, in time, this will be a fund to enable these volunteers to become involved with a range of children’s projects throughout the world. Initially, however, all the volunteers will be employed in Northern Uganda in resettlement programs following years of violent conflict and the closure of the night commuter centers.
They will work as team members with volunteers from developed countries (who will be expected to fund themselves), using their combined skills to achieve the peaceful resettlement of child-led families.
$850 will go to cover each HDC2 volunteers basic travel and living expenses while working for Life in Africa for 3 months, based either in Gulu or Kampala. (http://www.omidyar.net/group/lia/news/95/)
There are many talented individuals from developing countries who have good educational qualifications but cannot find regular employment. There are others whose circumstances in life have left them with only a basic education, but who now aspire to help build solutions to the problems that they themselves have had to face.
By donating here to an ongoing fund to support these good hearted folk offering to donate their talents on behalf of others in need, you will be helping to establish a new, direct and constructive way to help alleviate some of the world most difficult problems.
And in doing so, these volunteers will be given a potentially life-changing chance to discover their own individual power to make a difference.
