As you all may know, my roommate Jane is running for San Francisco school board. She has the daunting task of trying to raise money via grass roots efforts, personal and public outreach, and loads of local fundraisers to raise the dollars she needs to continue with her campaign.

Allocating and prioritizing funding for the schools. In the face of the statewide budget crisis, we must protect the funds that go to our schools and our students and find creative ways to eliminate bureaucratic waste.

Bringing the School Board back to the community by holding at least a quarter of meetings at a neighborhood community center or school and requiring School Board members to visit our schools monthly.
C
Collaborating with schools, community based organizations and government to create and fund programs during and after school that provide a complete education to our students. Education does not stop at the bell. We need universal afterschool programs that provide counseling services, art classes, athletics, leadership programs and a safe space that nurture youth and captivate them to KEEP THEM IN SCHOOL. We must build stronger youth, thereby developing stronger students.
