Peace Tiles :: "Sponsor A Kit" Campaign

In 2005, with generous support from the Omidyar Network community and many individual donors, the International Peace Tiles project helped to engage more than a thousand young people around the world in arts-based workshops aimed at giving young people a voice in the global campaign against HIV/AIDS. Three murals were exhibited in Geneva, India, and South Africa.

This year we'll continue our commitment to using the arts as a vehicle for social change, with a new twist. Instead of focusing our efforts just on large 'advocacy murals' as the end result, we'd like to encourage people and communities to build ties with one another through artistic expression. So in the run-up to World AIDS Day 2006, we'd like to encourage -- and support -- as many people and groups as possible to connect and share their stories, hopes and fears about HIV/AIDS. This year we'd like to invite reflection on the experiences of women of and girls in this pandemic.

To that end, we are offering to supply Peace Tiles "kits" to individuals and groups, which we hope they will share using our "swap engine" at peacetiles.net. While we'll be able to provide lots of individual kits, in a few cases we will have orders of 10 or more, coming from places like South Africa and India. To get the kits into their hands, we'll need a little help.

Here's what you can do:

- Visit the "2006 Workshops" section of peacetiles.net
- Find a workshop you'd like to sponsor
- Complete the peacetiles.net "sponsorship" survey
- Make a donation of $25 or more using dropcash

We'll let you know when your kit has been shipped, and how to follow up. We'll also let the recipient know who sponsored their kit (unless you prefer otherwise) and ask them to send one tile completed during the workshop to you, with a little profile of the person who made the tile.

Thanks for considering playing a critical part of Peace Tiles' World AIDS Day activities. Please don't hesitate to email me at peacetiles [at] gmail.com if you have any questions!
